Anglesey Blog: Round 9,10,11

Heading to one of my favourite race tracks in the UK, I was looking forward to fighting for more Wins and important championship points.

Having not been at this circuit since 2008 Friday practice was about getting into a rhythm and putting in some consistent laps in preparation for the important three races over the weekend.

Thanks to the Westbourne team, We

managed to secure front row starts for all three races, with Pole for race 3!

in Race 1 I managed to get a good run out of turn 3 to take the lead, however I was forced off the track going into to turn 5 which saw me down in 3rd. Just after lap 7 I managed to get back to 2nd place and in pursuit of the leader who was 4 seconds up the road. With laps running out, I put as much pressure as i could on the leader, but we crossed the line 1.9 seconds apart. However, the race directors deemed the leader to get a jump start so giving them a 10 second penalty, meaning we earned our 3rd WIN of the year.

The heavens opened for Race 2 and 3 on Sunday and having never driven the car in the wet before I was looking forward to gaining this experience (although not in ideal circumstances). With the lack of experience I just wasn't quick enough in the opening laps of the race and lost ground early on. Although towards the end of the race I was matching the leaders pace, I ended up finishing 2nd in Race 2.

Having got one wet race under my belt in the car, I was looking forward to race 3. We took a gamble with using new Wet tyres for the race which proved to be the wrong choice as the track was drying out and the tyres were chewed by the end of lap 1, meaning no grip. The whole race was a struggle, but I ended up bringing it home in P3 which although was annoying for championship points, it could of been a lot worse.

The Westbourne team did a great job all weekend, putting together a car that allows me to fight at the sharp end and for this championship, so I cant wait to get back in it at the next round Brands Hatch 23/09.
